Successful VDA 6.2 Certification in just a few steps
The German Association of the Automotive Industry, VDA for short, has developed the VDA 6.x standards; these standards form the regulatory framework for the German automotive industry. The VDA Volume 6 Part 2 Standard, “QM System Audit Services,” is aimed specifically at internal and external service companies in the automotive industry, such as car dealerships, garages, engineering firms, freight forwarders, etc.
As the content of VDA 6.2 corresponds to ISO 9001, the VDA certificate also includes ISO 9001. This allows the quality management to be optimally adapted and improved in accordance with your company’s circumstances and needs. We can also provide you with a separate ISO 9001 certificate upon request.

Sanctioned Interpretations (SI) concerning VDA 6.2
Sanctioned Interpretations (SIs) are official clarifications and adaptations of existing quality management rules and requirements. They play an important role in ensuring consistency and clarity within industry-specific standards. In the specific context of quality management in the automotive industry, especially in system audits for services according to VDA 6.2, the new SIs come with significant updates. They were developed by the Quality Management Center (QMC) of the VDA and are binding for all organizations concerned.
Until now, under Section 9.2.2.1, organizations were required to maintain an internal audit program that covered all QM-related system processes, including services. These audits, that are scheduled to take place on an annual basis, were supposed to assess all processes within three years, with Section 8 of VDA Volume 6.3 specifically applying to service processes.
Key changes to the current Sanctioned Interpretation
The latest Sanctioned Interpretations make significant changes and additions to VDA Volume 6.2 which will significantly influence the audit processes and quality requirements in the automotive industry. The key changes are summarized here:
3. Requirements/supplements:
Chapter 8 “Process audit services” has been removed from the 4th revised edition, January 2023.
9.2.2.1 Internal audit program:
- As an organization, you are required to both develop and maintain an internal audit program that encompasses the entire QM system, including the service processes
- Internal audits have to be carried out annually according to a fixed schedule.
- All processes in the QM system must be audited within three calendar years to assess their effectiveness.
- The auditing of the service processes has to take account of the requirements of the attached question catalog (Sections 1.0 to 11.5).
