Your EfbV Certification at a glance

In the past, it was frequently the case that waste was not disposed of properly, leading to considerable environmental damage. The rules set out in the Ordinance on Specialized Waste Management Companies were created to ensure the transparency of the disposal of the waste as well as complete traceability. In addition to comprehensive documentation, this also includes proof of the equipment used by the company, that it has sufficiently qualified personnel and proof of the expertise of the waste management company.
Our experts check on a neutral basis the fulfillment of the requirements of the EfbV in terms of the organization, equipment and activities of your company as well as the reliability and competence of your employees. The recognition includes approval as a (primary) processing plant for electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with the Act on the Sale, Return and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act, or ElektroG).

The bases of the certification for waste management companies are the Circular Economy Act (KrWG) and the Ordinance on Specialized Waste Management Companies (EfbV). The Ordinance was first published in 1996 and, following fundamental changes, entered into effect in amended form in June 2017. Only companies certified according to the EfbV are allowed to advertise their services as a specialized waste management company and thereby show their customers that they fulfill the necessary requirements for the professional processing of waste. Certification as a waste management company is of interest to all companies that collect, transport, store, treat, recycle, dispose of or trade in waste. Such companies may be a small collection facility, a conventional scrap yard or even a large-scale waste disposal plant.
The EfbV addresses the increased requirements regarding environmental protection, so that customers of the companies can be certain that their waste is managed on a legal and sustainable basis. Furthermore, the standard also contains guidelines on the equipment, the qualification of employees and the owner, as well as membership in a waste management association. Other areas of focus are the proper documentation and the monitoring requirements.
