At the core of the certification according to EN 9100 is the review of the documentation, processes and performance of the QM system in accordance with the requirements of the aerospace industry. This includes risk analyses to identify and assess risks within a company and at the operational level, for example. Processes can then be sustainably improved on this basis and the levels of competitiveness increased. At the same time, the EN 9100 certification is compatible with other certifications, such as ISO 9110 or ISO 9120, and is already required by a large number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the industry.

The EN 9100 standard was developed by industry experts in response to the exacting requirements of contracting parties, manufacturers and aviation authorities, and consists of an extended, industry-specific version of the tried-and-tested DIN EN ISO 9001 quality management standard. The EN 9100 standard is identical to the American AS9100 standard and the Asian JISQ 9100 standard. It is aimed at all organizations in the supply chain for the aerospace and defense industry.
In addition to the guidelines for comprehensive, reliable quality management, the standard is characterized by its process orientation and the evaluation of such processes. In addition to optimized project and risk management, it also requires proven quality throughout the entire product lifespan. This includes general safety aspects that relate to the product itself, but also the traceability of all the materials used and the accurate documentation of the staff qualifications during production.
