About IRIS Certification®

IRIS Certification® is aimed at all companies involved in the supply chain in the rail vehicle industry, including suppliers of infrastructure technology. The standard, which is based on the internationally recognized ISO 9001, is part of the IRIS certification and was developed on the initiative of the Association of the European Rail Industry (UNIFE) with the aim of creating uniform terminology, measurable assessment guidelines and standardized audits. Quality and safety in the rail vehicle industry are thus sustainably increased.
Our auditors support you in the certification process right from the start. They draw on their many years of expertise in quality management as well as their extensive experience in the rail industry, supply chains and logistics in order to respond to your individual situation.

Before the three-year period expires, steps two to six are repeated in the recertification audit
ISO 22163 has the so-called high-level structure of the ISO 9001 quality management standard, but also takes into account the special requirements of the rail industry and is aimed at:
  • Railroad operators
  • Rail vehicle manufacturers
  • Suppliers of original equipment for series production
  • Suppliers of spare parts
  • Maintenance companies
  • Development service providers
The certification system of the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) consists of three core elements with the aim of uniformity and thus a neutral assessment standard. In addition to ISO 22163, the system also includes the certification regulations according to IRIS Certification® .
With the aim of being able to evaluate supply chains more transparently and efficiently, the final certification does not require procedures, but specifies requirements for process quality, such as
  • The identification and monitoring of customer requirements
  • The management of development projects
  • The procurement of products and services
  • Project management
  • Product realization
In addition, risk-based thinking and action as well as process-oriented strategies are strongly emphasized. The process orientation is supported by the requirement that key performance indicators (KPIs) must be regularly monitored and evaluated. In the event of deviations from defined target values, corrective measures must be initiated in order to achieve continuous process and organizational improvement.
The standardized benchmark of IRIS certification creates trust and transparency for supply chains by making the detailed results available to stakeholders on the IRIS online portal. The results are categorized into bronze, silver and gold. These performance levels represent a maturity model and are based on criteria such as performance and customer perception. They can change annually depending on performance and are awarded after the audit.
Bronze
The Bronze level is the basic level of IRIS certification. You reach this level if you have implemented a business management system (BMS) and this has been successfully certified.
Silver
Companies that have reached the Silver level have not only implemented and successfully certified a BMS, but also a performance management system. These companies are characterized by a high level of transparency, as a stakeholder analysis, customer feedback and a performance and KPI evaluation take place during the audit.
Gold
The Gold performance level is the highest achievable level of IRIS certification. In addition to the requirements of the Silver performance level, the company must clearly demonstrate that it always meets customer requirements and has implemented a highly developed BMS.
