Certification according to the SURE system

Demonstrate sustainable processes for the production of electricity and heat with the Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme

The Renewable Energy Directive (2018/2001/EC – RED II) aims to further advance and encourage the use of energy from renewable sources. It also applies to operators involved in the supply chain and the production of liquid biofuels or biomethane for the production of electricity or heating/cooling.

A voluntary certification according to the SURE system is the optimum way to demonstrate compliance with the sustainability criteria on a neutral and reliable basis.

The requirement for proof of sustainability in accordance with Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (RED II) has been in force since 01/01/2022. The voluntary SURE certification is designed to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of RED II for the production of electricity and heat from biomass – on an objective and reliable basis. The standard is recognized by the EU Commission.
The SURE standard is a sustainable resources verification scheme which was developed by the organization SUSTAINABLE RESOURCES Verification Scheme GmbH. Its shareholders’ meeting consists on the one hand of representatives of Bioenergy Europe and on the other of representatives of REDcert GmbH.
SURE was created specifically for the verification of the sustainable production and use of forest biomass, agricultural raw materials, biomass waste and biomass residues in the area of the production of electricity and heat. It offers all participants easier access to the global marketplace.
