Certification According to ISCC EU
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Meet Additional Environmental and Social Requirements
Especially in biomass production and processing, sustainable practices are very important. This is where ISCC EU helps by setting standards for the sustainable production and processing of biomass. ISCC EU certification not only reduces environmental impact but also considers social factors, supporting a well-balanced and sustainable approach. A key focus is following EU rules, especially the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).
DEKRA Certification GmbH has been provisionally recognized as a certification body for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) by the German Environment Agency (UBA) as of February 24, 2025. This provisional recognition is granted under the newly revised 37th Ordinance on the Implementation of the Federal Immission Control Act (37. BImSchV). This marks a significant step for the sustainable hydrogen economy. By certifying RFNBOs, DEKRA helps in decarbonizing energy-intensive industries and supports businesses in meeting the EU's strict sustainability requirements. The recognition comes at a crucial time, following the European Commission's official acknowledgment of ISCC EU as a voluntary certification scheme for RFNBOs, recycled carbon fuels (RCFs), and forest biomass. Companies benefit from greater market transparency and investment security for green energy sources.

5. Surveillance audit
Mandatory surveillance audits must be conducted by the certification body six months after the first (initial) certification of any economic operator in a high-risk supply chain. A high risk applies to economic operators that are collecting, processing, storing or trading materials, which may be eligible for extra incentives in individual EU Member States (e.g. double-counting), such as waste and residues or waste and residue-based products.
