SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment for Sustainability)
Safety and quality for transport and logistics companies as well as tank clean station through the SQAS system
Huge quantities of hazardous goods are transported each day. In this context, it is necessary to ensure that their storage, transport and transshipment are carried out safely and in a way that maintains quality.
To continuously reduce the risks for humans and the environment, SQAS has been created as an holistic monitoring tool for the uniform performance assessment and control of transport companies. After our assessment of your company, you can demonstrate the quality of your service to your customers with the SQAS seal.
Our audit according to SQAS
In the early 1990s, the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) developed a variety of systems under the Safety and Quality Assessment for Sustainability, or SQAS in short. These standardized assessment procedures for logistics service providers in the area of hazardous goods are designed to improve safety during the transport, storage and handling of chemicals. Each of the different systems is tied to a particular mode of transport or logistics service.
The Safety and Quality Assessment for Sustainability offers five specific modules:
- Transport services
- Rail operators
- Tank cleaning stations
- Warehouses
- Chemical distributors
Each module has a standardized SQAS questionnaire for the assessment of the respective safety, health, environmental and quality processes.
The audit goes far beyond the requirements of quality management according to ISO 9001 and includes compliance with the legal regulations and components of the environmental management system according to ISO 14001.
Procedure of your audit according to SQAS
- Project Meeting
Clarification of open questions and definition of next steps, initial assessment and creation of a schedule for the system assessment - On-site audit
Assessment according to the SQAS guidelines and questionnaire - Audit report and assessment
Evaluation of the results, possibly with a presentation of potential optimizations, report for the CEFIC-SQAS database - Assessment and SQAS seal
No certificate is issued after the SQAS assessment; you will, however, receive the certification logo from the SQAS database; the assessment results are available online - Recertification
Repeat assessment after three years at the latest
The Chemical Industry Council is committed to CO2 neutrality. As of 01/01/2022, therefore, the CO2 footprint is also included in the SQAS assessments. If you fail to fulfill the requirements, you won’t be awarded any points in the assessment.
