DEKRA receives accreditation as a validation and verification body for greenhouse gases
Plausible and True Emissions Data
DEKRA now offers accredited validation and verification services for the greenhouse gas statements issued by companies and projects. DEKRA Certification GmbH has received official accreditation as a validation and verification body from German accreditation body DAkkS, in accordance with DIN ISO/IEC 17029:2020 in conjunction with DIN EN ISO 14065:2022.
CO2 accounting and independent audits are key instruments that enable companies and organizations to reduce their environmental impacts and achieve their sustainability targets. The statement of greenhouse gas emissions can be produced at the company level (corporate carbon footprint), project level (project carbon footprint), or product level (product carbon footprint). Part 3 of DIN EN ISO 14064 describes a systematic approach for this.
Thanks to its accreditation in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17029:2020 in conjunction with DIN EN ISO 14065:2022, DEKRA ensures that the disclosures made in line with defined guidelines are reviewed and confirmed independently, impartially, and expertly. As an accredited validation and verification body, DEKRA operates within the statutory framework that requires companies to have their disclosures audited independently by an accredited body, as well as in the voluntary sector, where validation and verification ensure confidence in the information provided.
On the basis of DIN EN ISO 14064-3, DEKRA experts provide support for the entire validation and verification process in the following areas:
- Verification of corporate greenhouse gas statements in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14064-1
- Validation and verification of reporting on the mitigation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in climate protection projects in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14064-2
An application has also been made to DAkkS for accreditation as a verification body to audit product greenhouse gas statements in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14067.
In contrast to other forms of conformity assessment, validation and verification aims to confirm the assertions or statements made by companies and organizations without characterizing properties, performing audits, or offering certifications with defined validity.
