Certification according to VLOG
Certified “Ohne Gentechnik” (non-GMO) quality for foods according to the VLOG standard
A large percentage of consumers are opposed to the use of genetic engineering in food. Genetically modified foods, which have to be labeled by law, are therefore increasingly disappearing from supermarkets. However, since the labeling requirement has quite a few loopholes, consumer are no longer certain what they can trust.
With the voluntary “Ohne Gentechnik” (non-GMO) labeling from the German Association Food without Genetic Engineering (Verband für Lebensmitteln ohne Gentechnik, VLOG), you can now prove that your products meet strict legal requirements in this area and thereby gain a competitive advantage.
Your path to certification according to the VLOG standard
The EC Genetic Engineering Implementation Act (EGGenTDurchfG) came into effect in May 2008, and regulates the labeling of foods that have been produced without the “use of genetic engineering techniques.” The German Association Food without Genetic Engineering (VLOG) was founded in March 2010, and published the first version of its “Ohne Gentechnik” (non-GMO) standard in 2013.
Until then, products from animals fed with genetically modified feed were not subject to labeling obligations. VLOG has therefore closed this gap with its standard and provides clear guidelines for this area:
- No use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or parts thereof
- No use of flavorings, vitamins, enzymes or other food additives produced with the use of genetically modified micro-organisms
- No feeding of animals (within a strictly defined period) with genetically modified or GMO-derived feed
VLOG certification is subject to strict checks at processing plants, in the agricultural and animal feed industry and at logistics companies. The requirements vary depending on the industry and product.
